Materials required

Pioneer Internationalism pack
Buttons & beads

Activity

First we did some of the activities from the Woodcraft Folk pack – brainstorming what makes human rights (20 mins)
Then we gave each child equal number of beads & buttons and auctioned off ‘rights’ such as
‘the right to have friends’
‘the right to eat chocolate’
‘freedom from bullying from teachers’
‘the right to have pocket money’
The right to have whatever hairstyle you like
(about 30 mins)
Then we talked about who had what right & what it meant & which were best

Variations

Maybe split them into groups (3 or 4) with a list of the rights & give them £100 to apportion between them

Evaluation

They got very excited & there was a lot of frantic bidding especially for the right to eat chocolate
