Objectives of the activity

Awareness of indigenous wildlife
I See & Know badge

Materials required

Found  objects from ramble
Caly, board, paint, glue etc

Activity

Week 1: went on ramble from meeting hall (sept evening so still light). Asked children to look for leaves, feathers, spores, tracks, berries & collect things to identify & use for artwork.

Week 2: discussed finds, look at identification books & web pictures of animals in local environment. Asked children to choose animal & make clay model.

Week 3: (to be done) Paint animals, make setting with found objects & place animal within

Evaluation

The children enjoyed the ramble & had plenty to think about. The clay (grey modelling – it stains less) was very much appreciated by the kids and some excellent models produced.
I think to improve the activities it needs a little more preparation, but the time scale gives opportunity to give a continuity & flow to our sessions.
