Objectives of the activity

Making paper based on a theme of nature or the seasons 

Materials required

Shredded paper made into mulch prior to the session. Newspaper. PVA. Wooden frame with one side covered with mesh. Washing up bowl. 

Activity

Before Meeting
1.Make wooden frames (or take glass out of photo frame – 5 for £1 at IKEA)
2.Attach thin mesh to one side of frame & staple on
3.Create paper mulch by mixing paper & watered down PVA

During Meeting
4.Walk around local area collecting leaves, flowers, petals… anything suitable to put in the paper.  Glitter, thread & other materials could also be used potentially  
5.Allow each child to put frame into mulch (this can be dyed with paint or food colouring) and the mulch should be in washing up bowl. Play games while some group make frames.
6.Shake mesh frame to remove excess liquid
7.Leave paper to dry on newspaper & add flowers, leaves,
8.Leave paper to dry (possibly collect the following week)

Variations

Combine with drying flowers in older group previously
Make books with made paper as front page – these could be sold as fundraising in a fete and could aid financing a delegation to come to Global Village

Evaluation

Wonderfully well! They were very involved and many were inspired & wanted to make more. Our Venturers/DFs are making books
